HOW TO JOIN IBSI

The International Bureau of Special Investigations is looking for civic-minded citizens who are willing to volunteer their time to improve the quality of life in their community, their country and the world. We currently have volunteer opportunities in three areas: support, patrol, homeland security and expert services. Individuals serving as IBSI volunteers are welcome to join us as long as they have the consent of their respective programs. Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours a week.

SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS - These volunteers assist IBSI with many administrative tasks such as callbacks to victims, data entry, filing, copying, fingerprinting, microfilming, statistical reports, supply distribution, and training of fellow volunteers.

PATROL VOLUNTEERS - These volunteers augment sworn police officers in non-hazardous situations (e.g. bicycle registrations, business emergency contact records, code violations, minor traffic crashes (non-injury/parking lot, directed patrols, disabled vehicles, laser/radar speed surveys, message deliveries, repair-a-grams, road obstructions, school crossing details, special events, traffic direction, watering violations, and welfare checks).

HOMELAND SECURITY - Volunteers not in uniform and drive unmarked vehicles. These groups check various sensitive locations throughout their respective jurisdictions for things that are out of place, suspicious vehicles or people. These groups also provide surveillance in cross-border illegal activities (e.g. drug traffic, illegal immigration, etc.).

EXPERT SERVICES - This personnel conducts investigation support at the request of criminal justice agencies. IBSI Special investigators also conduct investigations as mandated by IBSI President and IBSI Board of Directors. They assist with language interpretation for victims or citizens in need of assistance, help victim advocates, or other professional services.

Note: To be certified as an IBSI Special Investigator, the volunteer must be at least 18 years of age, have no criminal history, successfully complete IBSI Academy training or be a graduate from any professional training program approved by IBSI. Serving as IBSI Special Investigator may require some national and/or international travel. Passport not required to join us, but you should consider obtaining one as soon as possible.
